What is Analytics?
Analytics measure the journeys of your website visitors by collecting, measuring and reporting internet data. The web statistics gathered through analytics can help you understand and optimise your visitor's usage of your website.
Currently, monthly website statistics reports are generated by the Digital Communication team.
A new statistics gathering system, Urchin, will be rolled out in the second half of 2009. Urchin is software from Google which analyses website traffic and provides easy-to-understand reports on your visitors.
Analytics can provide information about:
- How many people visited your site, and how often
- Their geographical location
- How long they stay on the site
- What pages they visit the most
- Top pages based on user group (students, international visitors, staff, etc)
- Keywords they use to find your site
